Flamingos Or Pigeons?

Do you dare step outside the box? Are you the writer who passes right by all the usual advice and does his/her own thing? Or are you the writer who only colors within the lines, living on the advice in writing books and nothing else?

We so often hear that editors are looking for new angles on old subjects. The editor is going to receive that from the flamingo, not a pigeon who follows his flock in everything.

The big question here is Are you brave enough to be the flamingo? No doubt about it. It takes courage to be the one who is different, the one who approaches an old subject in an entirely new way.

What have you got to lose by trying to be unique? I'd say you have a better chance of acceptance than if you wrote the same old, same old.

Have you ever gone to a party and found that one woman stood out above all the rest? She had the most flamboyant outfit on, the wildest hair-do and the most exotic make-up. She's the one you'll remember. Write so that you stand out from other writers and editors will remember you and so will your readers.

Dare to be different but know where to draw the line. You don't want to write something that totally turns away your readers--and those editors. Be different but don't be stupid.

I can hear a good number of you mumbling that you are an introvert and you could never write or do anything that would let you be a flamingo. You'd much rather slip into the middle of that flock of pigeons. If you're one of those writers, have you ever read The Shy Writer Reborn by C. Hope Clark?
Click on the link and see if this book might help you change from pigeon to flamingo and add a bit of zip to your writing world.
