Book Review: Winter Hearts

Sme stories stay with you past your closing the final page. Christina Hamlett's latest book, Winter Hearts, is that kind of a read. I've continued  thinking about the characters, t he choices made long ago, and a rekindling of same.

Ellie Lipton's first love was a student from Russia, despite it being in the Cold War when most Americans feared and dislike Russians.  They met in a university classroom, and love bloomed quickly. After  Ellie's parents refused to allow her to marry Dimitri, Ellie moved on, marrying a wealthy, influential man but she never forgot her first love. Decades later, Dimitri, now a well known playwright, comes to America to present his newest play. He contacts Ellie, now a widow of three years.

Their relationship is rekindled. Finding that she still loves Dimitri, but knowing they come from different worlds leaves Ellie confused but still in love. She has a choice to make, despite a recent new relationship.

Winter Hearts gives a glimpse into mature love and the problems it can bring. For these two people, memories and the long ago choices made are countered with the choices of today's world for mature love.

You might classify the book as Women's Fiction or Romance, or perhaps both. Whichever, it is a page turner for sure. I read it in two days because each new chapter beckoned to keep reading to find out what happens next to these two people who have never stopped loving one another but have obstacles to overcome.
