If you've been adding family stories to your Memory Book all year, you should have a nice collection by now. Here we are in the last month of 2012. Everyone has plenty of stories to tell about the things that happened this month.
Doesn't matter which December holiday you celebrate. There will be stories involving gifts, food, decorations, joy and yes, even sorrow. There will be stories about learning what the holiday you celebrate is all about. You know--the reason for the season!
Do you have a story to tell about a great-uncle who caused a ruckus one year? Or an aunt that burned up the dinner? Maybe there's a story to tell about a mischievous little brother or sister who couldn't resist peeking. How about one about how you celebrated the holiday in grade school? Did you even have a Christmas tree disaster at your house? Did your mother forget to give you the correct number of Hanukkah gifts one year? There are so many little things that are worthy of your family memory book. Those little bits and pieces of your life are the things your family will treasure in years to come.
You don't have to write them all now. Choose one or two and work on it early this month. It only becomes busier day by day. Make writing at least one new story for your Memory Book a priority. You know how many times I've said that we make time for the things we want to do. So, think about the story while you're doing mundane tasks around your house, plan it in your head, then take a little time one afternoon and write it. Let it sit a few days, edit and revise and pop it in your book.
If life is too overwhelming this month, jot down some notes and write the story in early January. You're the one in charge here.
